Not everyone wants to play Capitalism in Space. Thats basically what 0.0 is at the moment. Some of us are sick of capitalism in our RL and play EvE to escape the grind that that brings. 0.0 space is very unattractive to me, not because its dangerous, but because of the mentality and mechanics behind it.
Personally I would like to see more of empire controlled 0.0 space graduating out into full 0.0 space. I would like to see some creative planning by the developers to make it more difficult to pretend your own great swathes of the new space by camping a couple of chokepoints.
We already have too much E-Peen space, lets put some wild, unclaimed, dangerous areas into EvE for people that like adventure.

Originally by: Scotlad The problem with 0.0 is that there is very little or no market there. If you were to get pod killed and ended up in a 0.0 station in your clone you are pretty much screwed on being able to find any ships or equipment that you need to continue on your business with. What 0.0 needs is for these large alliances and corps who control the vast areas of 0.0 to allow in smaller corps and alliances to mine, hunt and build to produce a market that will allow more people to enter 0.0. Until this is done then all that will happen is that these new 8 regions will be added to the vast collection of systems that are already controlled by these large alliances and corps. There is little or no way for a small corp or alliance to survive in 0.0 without some serious backup.
Thats all well and good. But, how many alliances want a real public market in their space? Most corporations are able to provide for their members or require self-sufficent members to be in their corps. By having a lot of stuff for sale on the market, you are just providing easier resupply for their enemies. Who wants that?
None because they dont need trade or customers for their products and services. However just because a small group of people 'dont want' something doesnt mean they wont get it and doesnt mean CCP should ignore the majority who do want it.
Wanting to be completely isolated from the rest of the server population doesnt mean that you should be allowed to be and still make as much profit as someone who isnt isolated.
Trade has always been the numero uno way that a state gets rich and gets ahead and it would be nice if CCP modeled that part of reality into the game.

Congrats on missing my point fully. There are regions with decent markets like Pure Blind, but that is because nobody really owns or controlls it.
I dont understand why stocked markets really would matter in 0.0. Would they encourage more squatters who try to hunt npcs and get ganked by the locls? Whats the point in that. Either you have the drive and motivation to succeed while living in 0.0, or you dont. Markets have 0 to do with that. Take a look at the Kador regional market, it sucks.

Good lord.

The rewards for playing the full top of the hill game is not enough. Empire needs nerfing to make it so that there is a true incentive to get out and become a more active player. The full EVE experience should be encouraged.
That and moneysinks to stop the insane rate of inflation is what we need.
0.0 space is not 'The full EvE experience', its just another part of 'The full EvE experience'. No one should be encouraged to experience 'The full EVE experience', in fact CCP have taken rather bold steps towards discouraging people doing just that (specialization).
As Magnus Bergsson said in an interview once, "At the base of it all is the free and open game design that empowers the player to have true impact. In the middle, we have enormous depth of content, which allows users to experience and play the game as they see fit for themselves."
To live a full and happy life in RL, I dont need to be a doctor, lawyer, soldier, criminal, poet, artist, plumber. I can choose to be ONE or several of those things. This is the same in EvE. As it should be.
